On NG+ and have beaten all but a few bosses in second memory and the ones for the 'bad' ending.

I don't think I've used the prosthetic tools in boss fights more than probably once.

The most used ones are umbrella for gun fort and the shuriken for general purpose.

The other ones don't seem to do much or at least never felt the need to use them.

Even bosses like madam Butterfly that I used the shuriken on in NG just get steamrolled now because of close to maxed out health and lots of attack.

If we get DLC, it'd be nice to make a boss where the tools are pretty much mandatory.

Items are the same way...never used any besides flask and confetti.

To have a slightly better advantage against the 3 enemies that the specific tool is effective against.

Firecrackers reliably gets u free vit damage -- which translates to better posture damage.

Whistle "helps" against animals. (And I suppose apparitions).

Umbrella can make some deflect-encounters easy af.

Shuriken is good for chasing slice and interrupting posture regen.

Flame Vent can do vit damage.

Most prosthetics are very situational. Firecrackers and shuriken are def the most useful.

Spear, whistle, and umbrella for a few rare cases, but I never used sabimaru, raven or abduction.

Shuriken - enemies that jump around a lot like nightjar ninjas, lady butterfly, Okami warriors. Also one shots wolves and charged tosses kill monkeys.

Flame vent - almost everything especially when paired with oil.

Firecrackers - almost everything

Monkey axe - anything with a shield. Also the little guys with big hats.

Spear - I only use it after knocking down the headless ape for a lot of posture damage. Pretty useless other than that.

Sabimaru - I&#;ve never used it but I&#;m going to test how well the poison works on bosses.

Umbrella - useful for just about everything. The variants are good for late game fights like apparitions and DoH

Divine abduction - I THINK it&#;s useful when swarmed as it can get you easy deathblows mid fight. I also think one of the variants is useful for farming. Also needed to complete Kotaros questline.

Whistle - good when sneaking to get hug wall deathblows. Also good against the first deathblow portion of apparition fights and DoH

Mist raven - useless.

Spear is actually really good. You have no idea. Works great on dogs and other animals. Great for fighting multiple foes with the retract move to crowd control. Costs only 1 emblem. Can poke bosses from range for free dmg.

The prosthetics are actually well balanced, axe is best used mid air since less startup frames. Same with spear and other prosthetics, try jumping sideways or other odd directions and using something like spear mid air, its very safe and rangey.

Myst raven is used to get out of combos or free damage to clinch a boss fight. Fire myst is most powerful and always try to get directly behind when you teleport. Another neat trick is if your poisoned or inflict yourself with lesser poison then you can activate myst at any time.

Only ones I really use are Shuriken for long range attacks or to use chasing slice, Firecrackers since they stun basically most things and Mist Raven since it works on pretty all attacks apart from grabs and headless. Divine Abduction I can see being good against groups to get a deathblow but I find it has too much set up to be used quickly. Whistle is good for stealth I guess, can pretty much replace ceramic shards. Umbrella I haven't used much but hear its good. Axe I literally only use against shields or Hat Rats of which their are very few of in game. Spear I literally only used against headless ape, I keep seeing reference to it being able to strip armour but have never seen it happen. Sabimaru lets you poison some bosses and gives you a more aggressive playstyle. Flame vent I barely used except against ogres.

I feel like they need to rebalance some tools and the spirit emblem economy in general. The fact that the prosthetic is depicted as being a huge element of gameplay but you only end up using a couple of tools isn't great tbh. If tools such as the Axe, Spear and Sabimaru didn't use tools on their normal attack but instead for some sort of special attack then those tools could become more of secondary weapons which would encourage their use more outside of the few enemies they are useful against. As it stands its probably better to use firecrackers to stun and then spam Ichimonji double to take our opponents posture down.

Mist Raven is great if you're like me and there are some attacks that you just straight up can't deal with properly for whatever reason thanks to it countering EVERYTHING. The first upgraded version for it is pretty sick too because it lets you get out of enemy combo strings. Also you can get it way earlier than the Hat, which makes it your best defensive tool early-game for sure (and I personally find it to be more useful than the hat against most bosses/minibosses).

Spear has nice punishes thanks to the extra range and alright damage, all while only costing 1.

Axe sucks unless you need to break a shield/hat.

Sabimaru is s***, way too overpriced.

Firecrackers are generally useful, but I find the delay before they go off to be too offputting for me to get good usage from it most of the time.

I don't think I've ever used the flame vent tbh. Maybe once on my first play through while trying to get Drunkard down?

Shuriken is good for keeping posture up from a distance and knocking stuff out of the air.

Never used whistle or divine abduction.

Umbrella is just a Souls shield, which is dope.

Look, I can name a few instances in MY life where I tried to reach mutual understanding
and i can TELL you, always faster and easier to just kill em. Just is!

The best way to actually learn the prosthetics is to choose only 4 or 5 in a playthrough and use only those.

I have spear in my current playthrough and it went from being one of the worst to perhaps the best in my tier list.

I think many people overlook this. Paired with Living Force you can do massive vitality damage to bosses. Hit them with Oil, wait for an opening to Flame Vent, then Living Force. Even when blocked they will always be set on fire after the first swing. During the burning animation they flail about for couple seconds allowing you to get a few flaming sword swings in. Works wonders on Genichiro/Sword Saint at least.

They did the same thing to Jim Hopper.
