The Best Places to Buy DIY Skincare Ingredients

Looking for the best places to buy DIY skincare ingredients? Look no further than this list of the 7 best DIY skincare ingredient suppliers.

With competitive price and timely delivery, TJCY sincerely hope to be your supplier and partner.

You found the perfect DIY skincare recipe and are excited to try it. All you need to do is pick up a few cosmetic ingredients and you'll be ready to start crafting.

But after wading through the endless sea of online skincare crafting suppliers, you're overwhelmed. So many options! How do you know which supplier to purchase from? Does it even matter?

If you're tired of hunting for the best suppliers to find quality DIY skincare ingredients for your crafting, you're in the right place, my friend.

I've been mixing up my own natural skincare concoctions for years'for personal pampering, for my DIY skincare school student supply stash, and for my artisan skincare business Farm Girl Soap Co.

You can say I've experienced the ups and downs of finding trustworthy suppliers. Some of the low-lights:

  • Fragrance oils (of different types, mind you) that all smelled exactly the same, like weirdly sweet plastic
  • French green clay in packaging so crappy that it burst and coated the inside of the shipping box
  • Another crappily packed extract arrived leaking and half-empty
  • Avocado oil that was not avocado oil (I really, truly believe it was canola oil!)
  • An order of an expensive emulsifier purchased but never shipped
  • And in all of these cases lackluster, and in some cases, zero customer service (as in, I contacted them every which way but Sunday and never, ever got a response.)

But over the years I've also found my go-to suppliers that I've come to trust and love. These are the suppliers I've relied on for years, ensuring that every product I create is safe, effective, and beautiful.

To make my list, the suppliers must:

  • Have consistently high-quality ingredients
  • Package their items with care
  • Great customer service. I totally get that oopsies happen! We're all human, after all. But when they do I want my supplier to help me solve it, not write me off with a 'sucks to be you!'

I'm excited to share my top online sources that have helped me build my ultimate skincare ingredient stash, so you can avoid the pitfalls of questionable quality and enjoy the experience of shopping for your skincare ingredients.

P.S. Just because a supplier isn't on this list, doesn't mean they aren't great quality. It most likely means I haven't personally purchased from them, or haven't purchased from them often enough to feel confident recommending them. So, if you have an awesome DIY skincare ingredient supplier you source from, I'd love to hear about them!

P.P.S. I love Amazon for lots of things, just not for purchasing ingredients. I've found that most ingredients sources through Amazon aren't all that great unless you are experienced and know what you're looking for, and who is fulfilling your order. Amazon is a great place for tools and supplies, though.

P.P.P.S. I am an affiliate for a few, but not all, of these suppliers. I've called them out below, and you can check out the affiliate disclosure below to see what that means. I only become an affiliate for, and recommend, companies I trust and personally purchase from.

This post contains affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. This means I may receive a small commission'at no extra cost to you'from any sales made through these links. I only recommend products that I personally use and love! View my affiliate disclosure.

1. Mountain Rose Herbs

I absolutely adore this company, for its awesome selection of quality ingredients, and commitment to sustainability and ethical sourcing practices.

Mountain Rose Herbs has a beautiful collection of dried herbs. But what I especially love is their unrefined oils. Top shelf! The unrefined avocado and unrefined hemp seed oils are my favorites.

They also have an incredible selection of hydrosols that are out of this world. Seriously, you haven't lived until you've tried the blood orange hydrosol. So. Stinkin'. Good.

For the record, this is the only place I purchase emulsifying wax. I've tried them allll and MRH emulsifying consistently comes out on top for making the most luscious lotions and creams.

Can you tell I'm a bit obsessed with this place? Once you try them, you will be too.

2. From Nature with Love

This place is near and dear to my heart, as it was the first 'real' ingredient company I started purchasing from (up until that point, I was solely working with kitchen ingredients.)

And, dang, did this place open up a whole new world of crafting to me!

Beautiful butters, clays, exfoliants, and fragrance oils that smelled divine. I wanted it all! And I think over the years, I probably have purchased it all at one point or another.

From Nature with Love is still my go-to place for milk powders, because they have options I've not been able to find anywhere else.

Also, their specialty oil selection is extensive! Prickly pear, strawberry seed, acai, kahalari melon, tigernut, date kernel' I mean, come on! If that doesn't make you drool can you even call yourself a skincare crafter?!?

I still haven't worked my way through every oil they have available, but I'm dutifully trying. Each and every one is exquisite.

From Nature with Love also is committed to sustainability, eco-friendly and fair-trade practices.

3. Nurture Handmade

Where are all my soapmakers at? If you haven't checked out Nurture Handmade, get on over there and see what cool items they've got.

I make TONS of soap, and I love Nurture's fragrance oils and mica options. They also have some great soap molds. So many choices for the soapmaker!

They also have great colorant and fragrance options for the bath bomb maker.

5. Rocky Mountain Oils

I use essential oils daily: in diffusers, roller bottles, and my skincare products. From a wake-me-up tangerine body scrub in the morning to an application roller bottle filled with chamomile, clary sage, and geranium at night, essential oils have been a part of my daily routine for decades.

I was using essential oils long before they became mainstream and instead were relegated to use by only the hippie-herbalist type.

So, when I tell you I've tried all of the essential oil brands under the sun, know I'm only very slightly exaggerating.

Now, I'm not loyal to any one specific brand of essential oils. I use different brands depending on my needs. For soap making, I'll use the least expensive bulk oils I can find (right now, my supplier is Jedwards) because you need to use so much dang essential oil per batch of soap, and I'm convinced none of the therapeutic value comes through the saponification process.

But for leave-on products, roller bottles, and diffusing, I'll splurge a bit for a higher-quality essential oil. I most often use Rocky Mountain Oils for my personal EO stash. I like Rocky Mountain Oils because they are a nice quality and reasonably priced.

Honestly, though, I prefer using them because they are not an MLM company. (Don't come at me if you love your MLMs; that's great! I just prefer not using an MLM for personal reasons.)

And, yes, Rocky Mountain Oils does test their essential oils for quality using a 3rd party. They also focus on sustainability, which is important to me too.

For nearly everything else, Wholesale Supplies Plus will likely have it. Preservatives? Check! Botanical extracts? Check! Boxes and containers? Check and check!

If you can't find it elsewhere, you'll probably be able to find it here.

7. Midwest Fragrance Company

Those of you who have been to one of my in-person classes know all about the 'fragrance table.' This is a table that I set up in the classroom filled with oodles of fragrance choices. It's the most popular station for the day, and my students always rave about the options.

Because choosing fragrance is fun!

Which is why I have, at any given time, more than a hundred fragrance oils in my possession. I have so many that I can't even store them all in the studio closet. 'Off-season' fragrances are relegated to the cellar.

Truly, I have a problem.

Fragrance oils are my guilty pleasure. They're not natural by any stretch of the imagination (in most cases, at least. There have been growing natural-based fragrance oil options!) but I love them anyway.

Whenever I buy supplies, I throw at least a few new-to-me fragrances in the cart to try. Which means I've always got several new fragrances waiting to be tested.

Sure, I've tried some stinky duds over the years, but I can honestly say I've never had a stench-bomb from Midwest Fragrance Company. Their fragrances are gorgeous, and give all of my products a high-end scent.

Their fragrances can be used in DIY skincare and also in candles. Although, I can't attest to how they show up in candles, as I'm not a candlemaker. (I tried; I make fugly candles.) But in DIY skincare, their fragrances are A+.

Whereas years ago I tended to buy from dozens of different online skincare ingredient companies, now I really do stick with these 7 suppliers. I'm all about streamlining and keeping things simple!
